Dividend Income Update – January 2017

Welcome back to the blog!

Every month I share what income we receive in the form of dividends from our stock portfolio.  It is our goal to eventually live off of this passive income stream, meaning we won’t have to do anything for it…it just shows up like magic.  Think about it, there are only so many hours in the day and only so much work you, yourself, can do.  I used to hear all of the time from my baseball coaches that they wish that they could clone me…well I have figured out how to do it.  We are creating another me in the form of money that works for us 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week, and never calls out sick.  I could sleep for a month and still have money deposited to our account thanks to our money working for us.

Let’s see who went to work for us this month:

  • Philip Morris International (PM)  –  $27.77
  • Realty Income (O)  –  $10.86
  • Cardinal Health (CAH)  –  $9.48
  • Aetna (AET)  –  $8.97
  • STAG Industrial (STAG)  –  $8.33
  • W. P. Carey (WPC)  –  $5.35
  • Walt Disney Company (DIS)  –  $1.58

Total Dividends Received in January:  $72.34

In January 2016 we received $62.37 in dividends so this represents a 16% increase year over year.  After reinvesting the dividends, our expected 12 month total is now $996.27 up from $993.10 last month.

Here is a graph of all monthly dividends received:

Here is a graph of all cumulative dividends received:

Is this a get-rich-quick scheme?  Far from it…more like a get-back-our-freedom-slowly scheme.  Eventually, this will grow and build upon itself so fast that it will cover all of our expenses, and then some.  Is it sexy and crazy? Nope, pretty boring actually…but it works and you only have to feed it for a while.

How are You preparing for your future life…will the You of 10 years from now be thanking the You of today, or cursing them?

Thanks for reading!

  2. Buy, Hold Long

Fantastic, an increase in dividend compared to last year AND reinvestment to make it even more for next year. Can’t go wrong with that. All the best.

    Our Dime –

HECK YAH! I see we all have quite the share of PM, keep it up. Nice job almost breaking the 4 digit mark, I am sure you’ll cross that this month going forward! Congratulations and keep the momentum moving in the right direction.

Thanks Lanny, PM was one of my original purchases when I started this portfolio in 2015. My cost per share is down to $70.56 already with dividends reinvested…it’s now trading around $100. I’m just letting it build itself. I can’t wait to start adding to the portfolio again after we get through our current project we are working on.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Diligent Dividend

I’m loving all the graphs and charts you have rocking. Those are some solid dividend returns your rocking. I truly enjoy how you roll in your extra dividends that were reinvested. It may have only amounted to 3$ but that’s better then nothing

Keep up the great work! Dividend income takes a while to snowball but once you get it going, it takes over.
