Not a bad looking portfolio to start with though a little heavy on the REITs for my taste based on the size of your portfolio. At this size I’d be more comfortable with a lot more consumer staples and build a base from there. Thanks for sharing.

      DH,

Yea, I got a little trigger happy on the REITS…I have an affinity for real estate. But you are absolutely correct in that when we get finished paying off our mistakes from the past (end of summer probably) and start redirecting all of the cash to the portfolio then I will concentrate on building our foundation with more Staples and Utilities…I want to build a strong defense first then sprinkle in some offense, sort of like the teams that win the Super Bowl.

      Thanks for commenting!

Nice portfolio, not too heavy on oil. Wish I could say the same thing 🙂

Hey Hunting, Thanks for stopping by. Yea you have quite a few oil related stocks over there, do you have experience in the oil field? I would like to add 1 more oil company to my portfolio at some point, that being Exxon Mobil (XOM)…their balance sheet is pretty strong.

No experience in oil. I like many last year doubled-down on energy stocks. I still like my long-term prospects, but right now they are down quite a lot.

Mogul, Thanks for stopping by and I noticed that you added me to your blog roll while I was checking out your site…Thanks.
Kudos to you for starting all of this and learning how to invest in your 20’s, if you keep it up you will be a very rich man early in your life! If you are really interested in building your portfolio with dividend growth companies then I highly recommend you read “The Single Best Investment” by Lowell Miller. If you are familiar with the site Seeking Alpha, then search for an author called “Chowder” and read all of his instablogs. There is a tremendous amount of wisdom and experience in these two sources. Here’s to financial independence!
